What to Expect

If you're nervous about starting therapy or just not sure how the process works, that's completely normal, especially if you're used to having things figured out. Starting therapy, or even booking a consultation, can feel like a big step.

Here's a clear picture of what to expect at each stage, so you can walk in feeling prepared rather than uncertain.

     The Consultation Call

This is a free, no-pressure conversation to see if we're a good fit, not a therapy session itself.

We'll start with the most important question: why now? What's bringing you to therapy at this point in your life and what kind of support are you looking for?

From there, I'll share a bit about my style and how I approach therapy, so you have a clear sense of what working together would actually look like.

Finally, I'll open it up for any questions you have about me, my approach, logistics, or anything else on your mind. There's no obligation to book after this call; it's simply a chance for us both to see if it feels like the right fit.

     Your First Session

Your first session starts with the practical stuff,  reviewing paperwork and getting the logistics out of the way so we can move into the more important part: talking about your goals and beginning to explore what brought you in.

You get to decide how you want to start. Some people come in ready to dive straight into what's on their mind. Others feel more comfortable if I ask questions to guide the conversation until they feel settled enough to open up on their own. Either way is completely fine. There's no wrong way to begin.

     Ongoing Sessions

Once we've settled in, sessions take on a rhythm that's both structured and responsive to what you actually need week to week.

We'll typically start by checking in on any homework from our last session; this might mean reflecting on something we discussed, trying out a specific tool to see how it lands, or tracking certain interactions, feelings, or behaviors in your daily life. From there, we look at what worked, what didn't and adjust as needed.

Beyond that check-in, sessions are organic. We follow what's most alive for you that week, while always keeping your bigger-picture goals in view. Therapy isn't a rigid script; it's responsive to where you actually are.

We'll close each session with a check-in on how you're feeling and talk about anything you want to track, notice, or work on before we meet again. That's how therapy works here: a blend of structure and flexibility, always moving toward what matters most to you.

   Ready to Get Started?

If this sounds like the kind of support you're looking for, the first step is a free consultation call, no pressure, simply a conversation.

Common Questions

How long is the first session?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes, the same length as ongoing sessions. This gives us enough time to go over paperwork, discuss your goals, and start exploring what brought you in without feeling rushed.

What if I don't know what to say?
That's completely normal and there's no pressure to have it all figured out. If you're not sure where to start, I'll ask questions to guide the conversation until you feel comfortable opening up in your own way and time.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the consultation call?
No preparation needed. The only thing to think about beforehand is what's bringing you to therapy right now, since that's where we'll start the conversation.
